Applications
-
Our standard thickness tiles are suitable for external tiled areas such as covered entryways, patios, verandas, and balconies where the tiles will be installed on a 150mm structural concrete slab.
For external paved areas not protected against the elements or covered, including but not limited to pool areas, pathways and entryways, we recommend 30mm thick pavers installed on min 100mm thick paving slab. 30mm thick pavers are only available as a Special Order however 100m2 minimum order quantity applies.
-
Fibonacci tiles can be used in a number of commercial and domestic applications including but not limited to:
Internal floor and walls
Countertops and benchtops
Splashbacks & undercounter sinks
Shower bases (Note: it is recommended to pre-seal all 6 sides of the tile when installing in wet areas, see recommended sealers for more information)
Fibonacci tiles can be used in external or outdoor areas including but not limited to:
Covered entryways
Patios
Verandas
Balconies
For pedestals, paving areas, pool surrounds and coping we recommend a 30mm thick paver. See Outdoor Areas for more information*
-
Fibonacci Slabs can be used in a number of commercial and domestic applications including but not limited to:
Countertops and benchtops
Splashbacks
Undercounter sinks
Internal walls
Shower bases
Externally and outdoor areas
Coping or pool edging
-
Pedestal paving systems help to improve rapid water drainage and provides protection and drainage for the waterproofing membrane. Due to the elevation of the pavers, heat conductivity is reduced allowing air circulation, which prevents the membrane from expanding and maintains the thermal efficiency of the floor. It also allows easy removal of any tiles should you require access to underlying layers when repairs are required.
For installations using a pedestal system we recommend using a minimum 30mm thick paver, however certain applications may require increased thickness. Please contact our team for further assistance with your project.
30mm or greater thick pavers are only available as a Special Order however 100m2 minimum order quantity applies.

The slab is loaded with a forklift and jib to an A-Frame with continuous bottom plate and backing board. A forklift and jib or overhead crane will be needed to unload.
Product Information
-
Fibonacci terrazzo is designed to endure wearability over time and patina for an honest aesthetic responding to the application and its conditions. We design and produce each product with a unique finish and texture for optimal wearability and durability for its intended application. The material can also be rejuvenated if desired.
Installation
-
Cut tiles using a wet-saw with a continuous diamond blade suitable for marble, general cutting or mitred edges.
Tiles are porous and water will be introduced into the material when cutting. Only install when the material is dry which can be achieved by leaving cut pieces in open air/ sunlight or by using a heat gun.
-
For curved vertical applications the stone is cut into strips and applied to the radius and for flat surfaces the curve is cut to suit the radius required.
-
An overhang of 300mm is achievable with our slabs unsupported provided that the overhang is not greater than 30% of the benchtop (E.G. 1200mm deep benchtop will have an overhang of 360mm).
Whilst this is possible, our preference is for overhangs to be supported by a continuous substrate or with steel bracing (refer below links) routed or set into the joinery spaced at 300mm centres.
The bracing can be set back 50mm so that they are not visible from the edge and therefore there is not a requirement to have a drop down detail to hide the bracing.

www.thestoneguy.com.au/blog/portfolio_page/marble-granite-caesarstone-overhang/
Whilst slabs can self support large spans, it is important to provide support at 300mm spacing/centres to accommodate loads placed on the benchtop (E.G. over a dishwasher or washing machine).
-
Our tiles can be mitred just below the bevel to create a small bird's mouth detail which once grouted is continuous with the tiled floor.
-
Standard industry practice allows for wastage between 10-20%.
-
Each of our products/colours is designed to have its own unique aesthetic. Those with a natural straight edge allow for microchipping as artisanal features for a less 'manufactured' look.
-
Unpack tiles with care prior to installation and inspect the tile face for any quality flaws or variances. Minor marks, chipping and small pinholes may appear in the tile are not considered defects but rather a characteristic of the product.
Chipping can occur during transit, handling or storage. Small chips on the top-face, once installed and grouted is not noticeable in the overall floor/wall.
Tiles with large or excessive chipping (damage) should be separated and first be used for cuts.
Deselecting and using for cutting at the discretion of the installer.
If the this exceeds the minimum wastage allowance of 10%, please contact us at info@terrazzo.nz

The right choice of adhesive is essential for correct installation. For typical installations we recommend the two-component rapid setting hydrating cementitious adhesive Mapei Granirapid or Mapei Keraquick Maxi S1 however you must use the Latex Plus additive instead of water.
If considering an alternative, ensure that the manufacture or supply has performed adequate testing and a warranty for suitability.
Avoid adhesives with water as the additive.

Using a penetrating sealer improves the performance of the slab or tiles. Whilst sealing material does not make it impervious to staining, it does however increase the material's resistance to staining and assists with the response time to cleaning up spills.
Apply a sealer to the surface in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Slabs
For typical installations we recommend using a high-performance penetrating sealer which is available from the following leading industry specialists.Tiles
For typical tile installations we recommend Aquamix Sealers Choice Gold.Wet Areas
Pre-seal all 6 sides with Aquamix Problock. Once installed, clean and seal with the recommended Aquamix Sealers Choice Gold. -
It is important to activate the floor heating prior to installation to ensure any further shrinkage and deflection in the substrate occurs before the tiles are installed

Domestic: Daily Routine
Clean spills ASAP.
Remove large grit particles that may scratch the surface using a suitable static mop, broom or other depending on the surface finish of the terrazzo tile.
Clean floor with a PH Neutral Detergent using a steam mop fitted with a microfibre pad.
*Do not use products that contain acid or alkaline. These types of products will etch the surface.
Commercial: Daily Routine
Remove large grit particles that may scratch the surface using a suitable static mop, broom or other depending on the surface finish of the terrazzo tile.
Clean floor with a PH Neutral Detergent using an auto-scrubber fitted with cleaning pad/brush suitable for the surface finish of the tiles.
Clean edges and hard to reach places using a mini-scrubber fitted with a cleaning pad/brush suitable for the surface finish of the tiles.
Clean any excess water using a wet vacuum or mop immediately to avoid dirty water pooling on the surface.
For honed surfaces buff the floor using a buffing machine fitted with a suitable buffing pad.

Our tiles are designed for longevity. Over time, tiles can show signs of wear and tear and can be rejuvenated. For best results we recommend a reputable sealing contractor mechanically clean the tiles, removing stubborn stains and repairing any scratches or blemishes in the tiles.
-
Whilst sealing your tiles or benchtop material will not make it impervious to staining, it will increase the response time you have to clean up spills.
For instances where staining has occurred, using Lithofin KF Mildew-Away as a spot cleaner is effective and should remove most organic stains such as red wine or similar.
